Penning my story 8: What next?

It was such a fruitful day, I had just finished talking to a group of young girls about the maritime industry and why they needed to join and enroll in STEM courses. I had decided to step out and get ice cream. That is when I received the call that would see me sit by the roadside, head between my legs, tears uncontrollably streaming, wondering, why me? If you have followed this journey with me, you know I decided to go back to sea to get a higher license. It was after three years of struggling due to gender discrimination that I got placement even though it meant starting from scratch, as a cadet. In layman’s term, a cadet is more like an undergrad intern.Being a very hopeful person, I decided this was better than nothing. I started over. Honestly, those were some of the best days of my life. I worked so hard the captain asked me to stay longer (still within contractual limits). I was dedicated, I had to win this. My appraisal came, it was excellent with a promotion recommendation to now have an independent watch and to rejoin the same team.Lo and behold, that never happened. […]

PENNING MY STORY 7: CALM AFTER THE STORM

I’ve written and re written this post I’m not even sure I’ll make sense in this. As I write this we are sailing back to Marseille from Algeria. For all those who have been avid readers of my blog know that I’ve been through hell and back to get here. It’s been quite a ride, I’ve cried, I’ve lost friends who never understood the emotional instability that comes with watching your dream slip through your fingers. It’s been 4years of a bumpy ride and finally I’m writing while sailing and this can only prove one thing, lean not on your own understanding of what happens in your life, the storms you face but adjust your sails and lean on God’s understanding because darlings, His plans for you are always greater than you can fathom! His Will, will never take you where His grace will not protect you. So brace the storm because the calm after the storm is a feeling I personally can’t describe. Overwhelming Joy knowing that God never left your side when you felt everything else was not on your side….. Sending lots of love! ❤️ Fashion This dress is just magnificent, when I first saw it, my […]

Penning my Story 4: Mediocrity

Hey Loves, Been a minute!! So much has been going on! I mean, I went through the big chop, I Finally achieved my birthday dream ‘visiting Paris’, I’ve started working on my new project (against the tide) ! but above all, I’ve missed you all, been quite overwhelmed with the project which I plan to share once it materialises but as for now here is Penning my story 4! When I started penning my story 1 about a year ago, I thought it will be solely focussed on my career journey of which I mean the sea, ships and all. However, I have realised it is during this career  journey that I have learnt to appreciate certain growths and lessons in my own personal life and it’s only fair to pen them down as they wholly contribute to my journey towards living my dream. Now a few weeks ago, I was at quite a low place in my life, however, I realised that my reaction and how my emotions handled this situation was quite different from times I was in a similar low. I didn’t sit with a box of tissues and cry over it. That was when I […]

Penning my story 3: Marriage Vs Career (My 2cents)

Hello Loves So today, Lets deal with the elephant in ‘my’ room. Marriage Vs Career. As I write this I will try as much as possible not to sound like a feminist and if I do, allow me to ask you, my lovely readers, to add ‘with all due respect’ where you feel slightly offended… however let me begin by quoting the gracious Chimamanda Ngozi, ‘We teach girls to shrink themselves, To make themselves smaller We say to girls, “You can have ambition But not too much You should aim to be successful But not too successful Otherwise you will threaten the man.” Because I am female I am expected to aspire to marriage I am expected to make my life choices Always keeping in mind that Marriage is the most important Now marriage can be a source of Joy and love and mutual support But why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage, And we don’t teach boys the same? We raise girls to see each other as competitors, Not for jobs or for accomplishments, Which I think can be a good thing But for the attention of men We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings, […]
